In order to ensure all boys are in a PE group which is suitable for them, in the first few weeks of lessons, the PE Department carry out a variety of assessments. This will range from fitness testing, hand eye coordination tests and invasion games to be able to allow boys to demonstrate their wide range of skills and abilities. After those few weeks, boys will be placed into groups. These are not purely on ability, but also on previous experience in the main sport of that term, in the first instance this will be rugby. This is done so boys are in groups which are safe, appropriate and enjoyable. These groups will move regularly and can move within half terms. They are reassessed after each term to allow boys who excel in various sports to be in the correct group for them.
All students must take part in Physical Education unless exempted by medical certificate. If parents wish their child to be temporarily excused they should write a note to the P.E. teacher explaining the reason. Students will still take part in the lesson where possible, an example being refereeing.

Extra Curricular
Wide range of clubs are on offer before and after school and at lunchtimes.
How do I get picked for a team?
Teams are chosen through the wide range of clubs and practices after school and through curriculum lessons. HBS are normally able to run more than one team which gives more students the opportunity to represent the school in matches.
If selected, students are expected to play for school teams and to attend practices. These matches will take place after school and on Saturday mornings. Students and parents/carers are encouraged to come and watch the school teams play after school or on Saturdays.
PE High Performance Group (HPG)
During Year 7, boys will have the opportunity to apply for HPG. The criteria is set out in an assembly and any boy can apply. If they meet the criteria for their selected sport, or demonstrate a high ability in a range of sports, they will be invited to join HPG for that year.
