In "Push Me, Pull You", the MP1 students started the unit by doing some pushing and pulling exercises. The students also did experiments to find out more about friction and gravity as forces. For the exit point, the students had to design original games which involved push and pull. Then they had to teach their friends to play the games.
The MP1 students went to the waterworks museum to consolidate their learning of concepts such as the 3 states of matter, evaporation, condensation and precipitation.
For the entry point of the unit "Living Together", the MP2 students worked as a team to accomplish some seemingly impossible missions.
In their most recent IPC unit called Active Planet, the MP2 students were learning about the science and geography of earthquakes and volcanoes. The students researched the different parts of a volcano, mapped the locations of various volcanoes around the world and around Japan, and studied the connection between earthquakes and volcanoes. They also learned about historical earthquakes that caused immense damage, and used that as a springboard into our final project about earthquake safety. In the final project, the students were tasked with coming up with a safety video explaining what to do in the case of an earthquake, and how to prepare for one in advance.
The MP3 students put their heads together to define IPC and how they can be "Champions for Change".
The MP3 students were training to become junior forensic scientists to solve the mystery of the missing class pet. Their beloved Pickles the Frog stuffed animal was missing and the students were learning the scientific process for fair and systematic tests to bring their class pet home. The students also learned about the pH scale and were testing if a solution was acidic or alkaline. Then they continued their forensic exploration with more lab experiences to build their observation skills, measurement and data collection abilities.
In the unit "Full Power", the students worked to build an understanding of electricity and its adjacent topics. They did hands-on work with snap circuits. They also developed models of circuits. The unit concluded with a focus on different methods for generating electricity and the pros and cons that accompany each energy source.
For the unit "Here and Now, There and Then", the MP3 students will look at their cultures, experiences, and relationships that help shape who they are. They will learn about the influences that other cultures had on their host, home, heritage, and adopted countries. They began by making maps of all of the countries represented in MP3 and what made them unique.
For the unit "Going Global", the MP3 students showed commitment to the HUSKIES by pledging to be good global citizens.
The MP1 students were exposed to a series of exercises and challenges as an introduction to the fact that their bodies are controlled by the brain. They also learnt about the 5 senses and how they are connected to the brain. The students had the opportunity to illustrate how they can show emotions with their faces.
For the unit on transportation, the students used tangrams to make different kinds of vehicles. They also showed their creativity by designing their very own transportation of the future and building them from different materials.
In Stories People Tell, the students worked on artwork representing the countries where the stories came from.
The students worked in teams to guess the things inside the cups by using their sense of hearing.
For the entry point of Living Together, the MP2 students had to work together to keep the balloons from dropping to the floor. They also showcased their research on the different aspects of Hokkaido International School.
In Explorers and Adventures, the students honed their mapping skills and made mini-presentations of some notable early explorers.
The entry point activities for The Learning Brain are designed to "hook" students' interest for the learning ahead.
For Myths and Legends, the MP3 students used Jigsaw, a cooperative learning strategy to research and report on the different aspects of the Ainu culture.
In the ever-popular Mission to Mars unit, the students reflected on what they knew and what they would like to know during the knowledge harvest phase. They also attempted to describe Mars' crust, designed and built their very own Mars rovers, as well as designed pamphlets.
In the unit Brainwave, the students discovered that they can use their faces to show different emotions.
As an entry point to the unit The Magic Toymaker, the students made Forky, a character of Toy Story. They also had the opportunity to present the design of their future toys to their classmates. For the exit point, the students made their very own future toys using waste.
The students drew their very own town maps using symbols, map keys and the compass rose in the unit Hurray! Let's Go On A Holiday! They also made 3D maps collaboratively.
In the unit Brain and Learning, the MP2 students shared their knowledge on how to take care of the brain with the MP1 students.

They also interviewed students from the other mileposts regarding consumer preferences. Our young entrepreneurs will find out how successful and lucrative their business ventures are in the upcoming Entrepreneur Extravaganza.
