This is just a non-exhaustive, short list of kūpuna resource navigation tools/resource collectors. They are listed here to assist members who may be wondering where to start in understanding what resources are available for them and their communities.
For broad resource referrals to services statewide
"Aloha United Way’s 211 service is Hawai’i’s only comprehensive statewide information and referral helpline. Our 211 Specialists are specifically trained to help you find food, shelter, financial assistance, childcare, parenting support, kūpuna care, disability services, and health services related to COVID-19 and vaccinations." - About Us
During the pandemic, their data tracking system allowed us to anticipate and adequately react to the influx of calls around food and other basic needs. As such we list them here as an easy first step to finding resources for kūpuna or their caregivers while contributing to their statewide data tracking system.
The more robust their database, the better connected we can be in ways that support our community's needs. See their Providers page as well as their Inclusion/Exclusion Policy located on said page for more.
For county specific resource referrals and for "gap group" kūpuna
The statewide ADRC offers a specific set of statewide services whereas county specific ADRCs are designed to assist in navigating resources available in one's specific county via self assessment tools, their call center, and services search tool. Similar to AUW 211, you can also contact your ADRC to ensure your services are listed and available for referral in their systems.
ADRCs help to implement the Kūpuna Care Program, a State of Hawaii-funded program that,
...This normally includes those with financial resources not high enough to afford the high cost of private-pay services, but not low enough to qualify for regular Medicaid or have levels of care not high enough to qualify for LTC Medicaid (ICF/SNF levels of care)." - Elderly Affairs Division
For asking for and offering help, financial or otherwise
Although this isn't a navigation tool per se, it's an important resource to know about because of the potential it has to connect us efficiently and effectively.
The Kūkulu Switchboard connects community to resource stewards (philanthropy, donors, peers), and enables resource exchange through a human-operated online platform.
Posts are categorized as either an ASK or OFFER
ASKS and OFFERS can be for funding, volunteers, in-kind donations, technical assistance, and potential partners
Partial funding for financial ASKS on the Kūkulu Switchboard are welcomed
Projects do not need to be a registered 501(c)3 or fiscally sponsored to post
