Hawai‘i Youth Food Council is hosted by the Hawai‘i Farm to School, a program of Hawai‘i Public Health Institute.
"Planting the seeds for a healthier Hawai‘i."
At the Hawaiʻi Youth Food Council, young people from across the islands come together to strengthen Hawaiʻi’s food system through policy, community work, and hands-on learning.
We support local food, advocate for food security, and help youth learn how to engage in real change, from writing testimony to working with farmers and legislators.
This is about turning ideas into action, building practical solutions, and shaping the future we’ll inherit.
Join us in growing a healthier Hawaiʻi.
HYFC brings young people into food systems work by teaching how policy is made, how systems connect, and how to show up effectively in spaces where decisions are happening. Members learn by doing, whether that’s drafting testimony, meeting with legislators, organizing events, or working alongside farmers and community partners.
We center youth perspectives shaped by real experiences from Hawaiʻi’s classrooms, kitchens, and communities, focusing on practical solutions that improve food access, support local agriculture, and build long-term resilience.
Policy Advocacy
Youth work directly with legislators, agencies, and partners to support food security and local agriculture bills at the State Capitol.
Youth Leadership Development
Members gain hands-on experience in civic engagement, systems thinking, and organizing through mentorship and real-world projects.
Community Engagement
From farm-to-school efforts to food access initiatives, HYFC supports grassroots work that strengthens local food networks.
Learning & Outreach
We create accessible resources and host events that help young people understand food systems, climate impacts, and how to participate in change.
