Hawai‘i Youth Food Council is hosted by the Hawai‘i Farm to School, a program of Hawai‘i Public Health Institute.
"Planting the seeds for a healthier Hawai‘i."
At the Hawai‘i Youth Food Council, we’re all about turning big ideas into meaningful action. As a group of motivated youth from across the islands, we’re working together to create sustainable, equitable, and resilient food systems that nourish both our people and our ‘āina.
From advocating for policy changes to raising awareness about food insecurity, we’re here to make a difference—one bite at a time.
Join us as we grow a healthier future for Hawai‘i! 🌱
At HYFC, we believe that young voices matter in shaping the future of Hawai‘i’s food systems. Our mission is to educate, advocate, and activate youth to lead the movement for food justice, sustainability, and equitable access to fresh, local foods.
Our mission is to engage youth in policy and systems change efforts that result in a just and equitable local food system for a healthier Hawai‘i.
We envision a Hawai‘i where youth are engaged and empowered in creating healthy, local food systems that instill a sense of place and purpose in connection with the ‘aina.
✅ Policy Advocacy – We work directly with legislators and stakeholders to push for food system policies that center community well-being and sustainability.
✅ Youth Leadership Development – Through hands-on learning experiences, mentorship, and community engagement, we equip young leaders with the skills to make meaningful change.
✅ Community Action – From farm-to-school programs to food waste reduction initiatives, HYFC members are actively involved in grassroots efforts to strengthen Hawai‘i’s local food networks.
✅ Education & Awareness – We create accessible resources, host events, and share knowledge on issues like food sovereignty, climate resilience, and agricultural innovation.
🌱 We Grow Through GRaCE, Spring 2025 – A two-part youth summit dedicated to legislative advocacy and sustainable food systems. Following a successful gathering on Maui, we had our second event on O‘ahu, where youth engaged in hands-on policy work, networking, and strategic planning to drive local food systems.
