Getting Started

Getting started can be as simple as a reading keiki a book about growing food on a farm or a field trip to a local farmers market. The most important step is to start and do what works best for you!

More  Easy Ideas to Get Started:

Try a Taste Test: Taste tests are an easy way to introduce new local foods to children. Choose a few locally-grown foods to introduce as a taste test or snack. For example, try crunchy, fresh green beans dipped in hummus. Bonus points for growing them in your school garden or in pots!

Learning Gardens: Start with a small garden bed, pots or even a little something on the window sill!

Education: Teach children about agriculture, nutrition, nature and Native Hawaiian foods!

Cooking: Prepare locally-grown foods with children - can be raw or cooked simply!

Field Trips: Visit a local farm, community garden, farmer's market or Tutu's backyard patch!

Engage Families: Host a gardening day, send recipes home, associate families with nearby farms, or set up produce box delivery to families!
