Prerequisites: None Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12

Description:

In this class you will have the opportunity to learn about common woodworking procedures. You will be able to design and build simple wood projects that you can take home and enjoy. We will be focusing on tool safety and common methods of construction. Heavy emphasis will be placed on safety procedures because of a lack of experience from the entire class. We are going to strive to create a safe and productive wood working environment.

Objectives:

Throughout the semester students will use industry standard tools and procedures in order to:

  1. Develop safe work habits in the shop
  2. Operate numerous common woodworking tools in a safe manner
  3. Demonstrate basic woodworking and manipulation methods
  4. Use different joining methods to attach wood
  5. Finish wood using different methods including sanding, painting, sealing, and staining
  6. Collaborate with other students and build social skills
  7. Use math and creative thinking to problem solve and develop prototypes.

Classroom Expectations:

My expectations will remain high for all of my students. I expect students to respect the classroom and most importantly each other. Every classroom should remain a safe space for all students to thrive and learn in.

  • For full credit, assignments must be turned in by the assigned due date.

  • Late work up to a 1 week will be accepted with a 10% penalty. Beyond that any late work will be accepted and graded up to 50%
