Excel is a Tier II academic support course, where students earn credit for engaging in activities designed to improve Executive Functioning Skills, Social Emotional Skills, and overall grade improvement. The students in Excel come from various backgrounds but struggle in the general classroom setting with universal supports. Most students have focus issues, trouble organizing their materials, lack strong study skills, poor time management, and lack self-advocacy. Students are selected for Excel by teacher or parent recommendation, grades, General Education Student Support Team recommendation, and/or borderline/ below average standardized test scores. Students can exit the program by demonstrating competencies in the targeted areas listed above and by earning a grade of C or better in all classes for 2 consecutive semesters. Students earn .5 credits in this course upon successful completion of the weekly course curriculum/assignments.
