8th Grade Band

The Hingham Middle School Eighth Grade Band is an ensemble open to all students in grade 8 who have completed at least three years of study on their instrument (or can demonstrate an equivalent level of proficiency) that meets during the school day twice per four-day cycle. Through the use of varied repertoire, warm-ups and assessments, the course is designed to continue developing musicianship with the intent of preparing student-musicians for the transition to the high school music program. This process includes lessons in historical and cultural context, ear-training exercises, and frequent self-reflection both through classroom discussion and written assignments. The Eighth Grade Band performs three times per year (Winter Concert, All-Town Band Concert, Spring Concert) and takes part in an optional trip to the Great East Festival each May/June.

Note: Members of the Eighth Grade Band are eligible to audition for annual MMEA and SEMSBA music festivals and the HMS Jazz Band.
