At Hillside, we have a strong commitment to partnership with our parents. Building a strong home-school partnership is always one of our school priorities.
Parents are invited to parent information and orientation sessions at the beginning of the school year, along with other parent workshops offered throughout the school year. Please refer to our regular e-newsletter for details of upcoming parent events.
There are two main online systems that you need to access to receive and share information about your child.
The ESF Gateway is an online administrative platform.
The LMS App is the one-stop app to communicate with us and to access your child's reports,, book parent-teacher conferences, school messages, e-newsletter and more.
These systems need to be checked regularly by you to ensure that you are up-to-date with your child's school information.
DEI stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and it includes promoting and valuing differences in people’s backgrounds, cultures, and identities. At Hillside we create classroom environments where all students feel welcomed, respected and valued, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or ability. We recognise that each child is unique and look for opportunities to celebrate individual differences and cultural diversity. Please click to access the full ESF DEI Statement.
We want all students to feel safe, supported, and valued in their learning environment, which is essential for their academic and emotional growth. This can be achieved through experiences that celebrate diversity, such as reading books with diverse characters and families, incorporating cultural traditions and holidays into the curriculum, and encouraging children to share their unique experiences and perspectives. Promoting equity can also involve providing resources and support to students who may face barriers to learning, such as children requiring learning support.
Our teaching team works closely with parents to provide support for diverse learners to fully access and benefit from our open-planned, English-speaking inquiry-based programme. This support includes, but is not limited to:
· Classroom Strategies
· Intervention Cycles
· Individual Educational Plan (IEP)
· Onsite Pre-school Rehabilitation Services (government subvented)
· Speech and Language Therapy (parent-funded)**
· Occupational Therapy (parent-funded)**
**Please note that while Hillside has a school-based Student Support Co-ordinator, we do not have a Learning Support Department with specialist teachers on-site. Therapy services are provided by external organisations and are parent-funded.
Children at Hillside develop their knowledge, skills, attitudes and understanding of concepts through play-based inquiry. This resource Inquiry through play – supporting PYP parents is a resource for parents of early learners. It provides a short introduction to the power of play, how to support learning through play and some examples of what this could look like in practice.
All children are expected to wear kindergarten uniform that are clearly labelled with the child’s name.
Each child’s uniform should include:
Trousers, shorts or skorts
Blouse, shirt or polo shirt
Cardigan, fleece or track top,
Two-in-one windbreaker
School bag, library book bag, school sun hat and or raincoat cape
Shoes should have fastenings that can be easily managed by a child and stay firmly on the foot.
Please keep in mind that children get messy easily, and it is often necessary to wash their uniforms frequently. We suggest you purchase extra sets of uniform for this reason.

For the comfort of our kindergarten families, it is strongly recommended that they make an appointment for uniform fitting. This avoids queues and ensures that staff are available to attend to your child or children, quickly and efficiently. Appointments are available Monday to Saturday.
Our school bus service is out-sourced to Kwoon Chung Motors Company Limited. The bus routes run along Hong Kong Island from Chai Wan (Island East) to Pok Fu Lam (Island West) to South Horizon (Island South). The Bus Company will notify parents of specific bus pick-up and drop-off points and schedules one week prior to the start of the school year. The operation of individual bus routes is dependent on the number of passengers or sign-ups; therefore, there are certain locations that Kwoon Chung might not service. Parents are advised to confirm transportation arrangements prior to kindergarten enrolment.
The school bus and escort (bus mother) fees are paid termly, regardless of distance.
This bus service is a private arrangement between the parents and the bus contractor. Any enquiries, changes or concerns should be addressed directly to Kwoon Chung Motors Company Limited.
