We plan 'In the moment'. We do not pre-plan any activities or tasks that the children have to do. We teach based on the childrens interests that day or week. Every term your child will have a 'focus week'. Your child will have lots of observations completed during the week and we will spend the week really getting to know them. The week before their focus week we ask you to fill out this information sheet to tell us what your child is interested in at home and what you have been up to. We also ask that you email us some photographs from the weekend and return this sheet to us on the Monday. We will use this information to plan for your childs learning that week so it is very important that you return it.
The children start Nursery at 8.45am (morning session), 9.00am (full time) or 12.15 (afternoon session). We encourage you to come into Nursery and support your child to find their peg and put their things onto it. The children then find their name card and put it up onto the cupboard so we know they are here! The children then choose where they would like to play, the garden is open from the start of the session so if they want to go outside straight away they can. The children play for the majority of the session, we stop and tidy up just before the end so we can sit and listen to a story, sing and dance or talk about our photos from home in our small groups. At the end of the session we ask you to wait outside the door and we will bring your child out to you. If your child has a full time place at Nursery they have their lunch inbetween the two sessions, from 11.45-12.15. We support the children to eat their lunch and open packets and lunch boxes for them.
We have very few rules at Nursery, we use different behaviour as a way of teaching feelings, empathy and respect. We do ask that the children don't run, throw or shout inside, they are free to do so outside. We encourage the use of kind hands, kind feet and kind words.
