A homegrown Midwesterner at heart, I moved to San Diego to pursue teaching STEM to young people with High Tech High and the San Diego Teacher Residency. Prior to teaching, I studied engineering and worked as an industrial engineer. Learning about the need for STEM educators in K-12 schools, I chose to bring my technical education to the high school classroom.
I chose to teach math because key figures, statistics, and calculations provide critical evidence for understanding our communities and the world. Additionally, I believe that students need opportunities to share their mathematical thinking out loud and support one another through student-centered learning. For this reason, I am committed as an educator to creating a classroom environment that invites each and every student to engage with mathematics in a meaningful way regardless of their prior experience with the subject.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy surfing, cooking, running, and traveling with the people I love the most.
