CANCELED - RESCHEDULING FOR A MORE CONVENIENT TIME

HTM LCAP and Title 1 Fund Review

Mike will host the annual LCAP review meeting and provide families the opportunity to share their feedback.

The Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a three-year plan that describes the goals, actions, services, and expenditures to support positive student outcomes that address state and local priorities. The LCAP provides an opportunity for local educational agencies (LEAs), like HTM, to share their stories of how, what, and why programs and services are selected to meet their local needs. We will look over the goals and action items for the year ahead as well as review how HTM is budgeting resources in support of these goals.

I would love to have you join and share your thoughts.

Thursday, November 18th at 5p (Zoom Link -)

Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders

We are running into challenges in our relationship with the Liberty Station Community Association because some folks are blocking traffic during drop off and pick up times because drivers are stopping in the middle of the streets, blocking alleys, parking in red zones and parking illegally at corners.

Please use the main High Tech High Parking lot (Lot N) or the backside of Lot P which is closest to Roosevelt for parking for drop off/pickup (see map above). We have been warned that if the traffic rules are not followed drivers may receive citations from SDPD.

Mental Health Resource - Magnet

Dear High Tech Middle Families:

As you are likely aware, our campus is experiencing some staffing changes. We are saddened by the departure of two of our HTHM teammates, and wish them well in their next adventures. We apologize for any impact this may have on our students as we transition and welcome new staff members in the weeks ahead.

I understand the complexities of this school year have weighed heavily on students, staff, and families. Like many of you, at the start of this school year, I believed the pandemic was mostly behind us. Yet, our school is similar to many schools in public education today. We continue to navigate the complexities of a return to school in often challenging circumstances.

While we address these challenges, such as staffing, our goal is to ensure a consistent teacher in class. We are aiming for an effective date of December X, for a new teacher(s) to join our staff in that position. We will write a more specific introduction email for the selected staff members whom we know will be passionate educators.

Together, we have strengthened our school’s culture, parent engagement, instructional practices, and student outcomes. Our efforts in returning to school, and especially our work in creating a welcoming, safe and inclusive school community, are laudable. And we know there is still much work to do.

Thank you for your grace and kindness during this time. We appreciate your role in the ongoing work of helping these amazing students transition back to school.

Very warmly,

Before and After Care Updates

We are working to open a small aftercare program, even though we do not have enough staffing for a full program. In accordance with the ASES grant we must maintain a student to staff ration of no more than 20 students per every 1 staff member. We are hoping to be be able to offer 40 students a spot for our first round of opening.

Per the conditions of the grant, priority enrollment will be given to students who:

  1. are homeless or foster youth

  2. qualify for free/reduced lunch

  3. are able to attend the program fully each day

We will send a form for families who are interested in participating in our aftercare program soon; in the mean time we encourage all families to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch (FRL) application at ezmealapp.com.

Applying for Free or Reduced Lunch

  • It only takes a few moments to fill it out, and may result in our school receiving $2,000 of funding for each qualifying student!

  • Applying can help both your family and our school if you qualify. While all students receive free meals this year, a free or reduced status can qualify students for free compass cards (bus).

  • If you do not think you’ll qualify, we’d appreciate you still applying. Having a high completion rate from our families can help us qualify for grants and ensure we receive appropriate funding from the state and federal government.

  • To apply, please visit ezmealapp.com and select "High Tech High" as the district.

  • You do not need to be a US citizen in order to participate in the free or reduced lunch program, and no information submitted on the application is shared beyond our schools.

HTM DELAC Meeting: Thurs 11/04@6p

What is an DELAC?

California public school districts with 51 or more English learners must form a District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC).

The responsibilities of the committee are:

  • Development of a district master plan for education programs and services for English learners. The district master plan will take into consideration the school site master plans.

  • Conducting of a district wide needs assessment on a school-by-school basis.

  • Establishment of district program, goals, and objectives for programs and services for English learners.

  • Development of a plan to ensure compliance with any applicable teacher and/or teacher aide requirements.

  • Review and comment on the school district reclassification procedures.

  • Review and comment on the written notifications required to be sent to parents and guardians.

  • If the DELAC acts as the English learner parent advisory committee under California Education Code Sections 52063(b)(1) and 52062(a)(2), the DELAC shall also review and comment on the development or annual update of the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).*

All are welcome to join! Next meeting, Thursday Nov 18 at 6p Zoom - https://hightechhigh-org.zoom.us/j/89256874156 (meeting ID: 892 5687 4156)

Students Working and Enjoying Themselves on Campus

Fall Break Around the Corner

Next week, November 22–26, HTH schools will be closed for Fall Break. Over this break, I am asking that our teachers and staff take the week to rest, relax and disconnect from their devices. I am incredibly grateful to the entire HTM staff for all that they have done to welcome and engage students in learning this semester. Thank you also to our greater HTM community for supporting us in all that we do, we are lucky to have such an amazing community!

Please use this coming week, November 15–19, to connect with teachers about any assignment / project / grading questions. I hope that students can use the break to rest, relax and disconnect. I also know that for some students, Fall Break can provide some much needed time to get caught up on work. Connect with your teachers this week for any questions or clarifications you might have before we begin Fall Break.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
