This is my desk. I used to work with the computer daily, but since I started working on the final project, I haven’t had much time to do what I used to do. I would usually catalog different cards for a plane, and digital scanning cards would be given to me by co-workers. On the right of the mouse pad is a scanner, and what that does is it takes physical pictures like the ones on the left of the monitor and converts them into digital files. The box on the far left of the desk is a box full of cards that I was cataloging. Cataloging is describing items but in this case parts of a plane called the Fb-5 and and making them easier to find. I still work here a lot mainly because I like the people that are in this office and it's very quiet so it's easier to get any work done without distractions.
This is the entrance of the new da Vinci section That has been in construction since early January. It promotes the idea of da Vinci creating a form of flight for humans with the saying WHERE DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT. These dreams where Da vinci's and how he wanted to in a way re-create flight. These ideas are shown on the left with da Vinci's creation of the parachute and on the right with his first version of the kite with the text Da Vinci's First Flight. This is the "start'' of what my project is surrounded on and I thought that this was a necessity for the photo essay. I haven't been around the entrance too much because I wasn't trying to be in the way of the people/workers who came to construct the section but when I was there It constantly looked like a different place than the last time I was there.
This picture itself doesn't do it justice so there will be much more of the section in the videos
This is the Boeing fb-5 the plane that I was cataloging parts for. It was a biplane fighter aircraft developed by the airline company in the 20's being an early series aircraft for the navy. The FB-5 had a wooden fuselage with fabric covering and was equipped with a radial engine. Its design allowed it to be used by aircraft carriers which made it an important step in naval aviation development. The Boeing FB-5 had many key features that made it such a big step in naval aviation development such as Armament (The aircraft was equipped with two fixed forward firing .30 caliber machine guns), Carrier operations(It was designed for us from aircraft carriers, featuring a tail hook for landing on carrier decks.), An open cockpit, And its performance. It had a top speed of 132 mph (212) km) and a service ceiling of about 16,000 feet.
This is the boardroom of the Air and Space Museum. I was brought here by Melissa and she told me that they were having a meeting to discuss two things. The first thing was the collaboration with one of the aquariums and I honestly wasn't paying attention to that part but it didn't matter. The second thing was how they would do the da Vinci section. This was a continued conversation Melissa had told me she said if I was lost don't even worry about it. This is where and how I got my ideas for the advertisement for my final project. I didn't say anything there so that I could consider other options for a final. I feel like this is an important place because It was a trigger for the idea.
These are my co-workers. They have been there for me throughout every step of this journey. My mentor Melissa has given me advice that I know isn't always given or figured out until later in life. I have learned many things from these people that I wouldn't have learned if I went to a different place for an internship. These people accepted and respected me from the first day. If I had different people working with me I wouldn't have as much support as I did with them. I thank these people for everything.
