There are two official documents, which explain what the course is all about - Junior Cycle Framework and the Business JC Specification. You don't need to worry about reading them; that's our job as your teachers! The most important thing to remember is that Business Studies is all about trying to understand the social world around you - how do people earn money? How do they spend money? How do you start a business? How do you make sure your business doesn't go bankrupt? What is the economy? How does the government decide to spend money?
While learning the answer to all these questions - and many others - you will also be learning a lot of new skills! Some of these skills will be specific to Business Studies, but there are many - like those on the left - that apply to all of your subjects!
This section looks at how households plan their income and expenditure, earn money, spend money, keep their money safe and manage risk
This section helps you understand how to start a business and manage its finances.
This section helps you understand how the economy functions - how do companies decide what price to charge for their products? How does money move around the economy? What is government policy? How does international trade work?
You will complete two classroom based assessments over the three-year course.
In June of your third year, you will complete a 2-hour written exam. All students will sit the same 'common level' paper. The structure of the exam is laid out below. The exam is worth 90% of your overall grade in Business Studies.
