Students purchase their own to wear their entire choir career! Lots of choices for your own concert black!
"Concert Black" is a great approach to concert attire in the 21st century.
Every member of our Highland High School choirs provides their own “concert black” attire - please see the information regarding the description of “concert black” in the “Formal Concert Attire Requirements” document.
Students get to find attire that fits them well and is consistent with their desired self expression (while still conforming to the group’s cohesive look). Some students may prefer ties, others may choose a banded collar. Some prefer the long sleeve shirt while others prefer to add the black formal jacket as well - and a vest! Some students may feel comfortable in a dress or skirt while others may choose a type of pantsuit.
If you choose, there are formal concert attire companies that provide many options for members of performing ensembles to personalize their attire while remaining thematically consistent across the entire ensemble (Cousin’s Concert Attire; Formal Fashions; Stage Accents - but order immediately!). Alternatively, you may find your attire in a store where you frequently shop for more formal clothing.
Choir members purchase their choir attire - and that attire choice can stay with them for their entire HHS choir career - regardless of the choir in which they are participating. If this expense represents a prohibitive hardship, the Choir Boosters stand ready to assist as we all find ourselves in different financial situations throughout our lives. We want neither exclusivity or affordability to be barriers for our HHS choir families.
Concerts are formal events, and we encourage you to enjoy this process of finding that combination of formal black attire that is just right for you! We’d like to take formal full choir pictures during A.L.L. on Monday, September 29, 2025 - so let’s make that our deadline!
