About Us / Mu ar Deidhinn

Lochcarron Primary School is a small rural primary school, set in the beautiful area of Strathcarron in Wester Ross. The school provides education in both English and Gaelic Mediums, and there is an English Medium Nursery. After P7 at Lochcarron Primary, children usually attend Plockton High School.

The School has three classes; P1-4 English Medium, P5-7 English Medium and P1-7 Gaelic Medium. Nursery provision is offered for all 3 and 4 year old children, and there is a provision for paying 2 year-olds, subject to availability of spaces. There are currently 53 children in P1-7 and 9 in the nursery.

The main building houses the P5-7 EM classroom, a general purpose/staff room, which is also used for art, music and other purposes, and a school canteen and kitchen. There are four demountable units alongside the main building, which house the P1-4 EM, the P1-7 GM and the nursery.

At Lochcarron we want to create a secure, happy and friendly environment where all children are encouraged to develop academically, socially, emotionally and creatively to the best of their ability.

We want our children to enjoy challenge, to cope with change, to be confident and to be able to contribute. We want them to think for themselves, put others first, and develop an understanding of local, national and global issues.

The school grounds have a football pitch, a fantastic play-park, an outdoor garden, which is being developed by the nursery team, and two shelters. The school is a stones throw away from the beach and Kirkton Woods, where outdoor learning is easily accessible.
