In Science the learner develops and practises a range of inquiry and investigative skills, scientific analytical thinking skills, and develop attitudes and attributes of a scientifically literate citizen; they also develop a range of skills for life and skills for work, including literacy, numeracy and skills in information and communications technology (ICT). These skills are incorporated into all of the units.
There are three units in the S2 Science course, they are done in rotation:
Life in Progress (Biology) - Informs the learner about sampling, classification of living organisms, genes & DNA, microorganisms, physiological measurements and chemicals in agriculture.
Materials (Chemistry) - Informs the learner about the periodic table, atoms, elements & compounds, chemical reactions and some chemical procedures.
Space (Physics) - Informs the learner about the universe. It gives them a wider understanding of space, sound & music, optics and how to take measurements.
Level 4 CfE Experiences and Outcomes are covered in S2 and S3. Benchmarks give clarity on the national standards expected at this level.
