In Science the learner develops and practises a range of inquiry and investigative skills, scientific analytical thinking skills, and develop attitudes and attributes of a scientifically literate citizen; they also develop of a range of skills for life and skills for work, including literacy, numeracy and skills in information and communications technology (ICT).
There are three units in the S1 Science course:
Cells (Biology) - Informs the learner about plant and animal cells, cells joining to form tissues and organs and plant and animal reproduction.
Planet Earth (Chemistry) - Informs the learner about measurements and units, the three states of matter, air pressure, expansion, gases in the air & testing gases, pH and neutralisation.
Energy (Physics) - Informs the learner about the eight forms of energy (heat, light, sound, kinetic, potential, chemical, electricity, atomic) and heat transfer (conduction, convection, radiation).
Level 3 CfE Experiences and Outcomes are covered in S1. Benchmarks give clarity on the national standards expected at this level.
