Straub, Math:
This week: In General Math, students finished up Chapter 9 with extra practice on IQR and MAD and a test on Thursday. Friday was IAR practice in preparation for next week's standardized testing.
Accelerated Math students revisted their Chapter 12 assessment and were given the opportunity to make corrections on last Friday's test over rational numbers. We began Chapter 13 over algebraic expressions and practiced adding and subtracting linear expressions.
Looking ahead: Next week, we have IAR testing, and the schedule will be modified. We will be practicing this week's math concepts using new (to Mrs. Straub) websites Lumio and Phet.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Taylor, ELA:
3/20:
I want to inform you that our 6th grade English class will begin a unit study on Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor after spring break. This powerful work of American literature tells the story of the Logan family navigating life in rural Mississippi during the Great Depression and explores themes of family, resilience, courage, and social justice. Please be aware that the novel contains derogatory language, unsettling events depicting racial injustice and discrimination, and other challenging content that reflects the historical period authentically. All of these elements will be discussed in an academically appropriate manner that encourages critical thinking and historical understanding. To support students in processing this material, our School Counselor, Mrs. Schuster, will visit our classroom on March 31st to teach strategies and coping skills for engaging with unsettling topics. This session will help students develop healthy ways to engage with the challenging material. If you have any questions or concerns about this unit, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Next week, the students will participate in IAR testing. Please remind your student to bring a book to read with them to school each day, as there will likely be time after their test. All students will need headphones that plug into their Chromebooks for testing. Bluetooth is not permitted during testing.
4th Quarter AR goals due May 15th.
Frey, Social Studies:
We made it through three quarters of the school year! I can't believe I only have two months left with your kids. We finished up the quarter by working on a gladiator project. I think they were surprised by the difference of what they know, and what the actual truth was. Next week we start to focus on Roman architecture.
Here is our plan for next week:
Monday - Roman Cities
Tuesday and Wednesday- Rome vs Highland
Thursday - Rise of the Empire!
Friday - Review Day
Berg, ELA and Science:

We finished the novel Hana’s Suitcase this week. Students took the AR test over the book. We will wrap up the book next week with some closing comprehension activities and the documentary Inside Hana’s Suitcase. Students have received their fourth quarter AR goal. Fourth quarter AR goals will be due Friday, May 15.
Science:
Students will wrap up the unit History of Earth next week. Students will research a dinosaur and will make a “mold fossil”.
