Students in Hico ISD (HISD) have the opportunity to earn an Industry-Based Certification (IBC) in all of the Programs of Study offered within HISD’s PTECH Pathways. More information is provided on each Program of Study page.
A certification is a validation that an individual possesses certain skills, usually related to an occupation and measured against a set of accepted standards. An occupation may have multiple certifications, with different levels of expertise. An individual earns a certification by successfully passing a test or battery of tests. Certifications are not administered by an institution of higher education; instead, certifications are administered by a certification body, usually an organization such as a trade association or industry approved testing entity.
In order to help remove barriers for students completing certain criteria in these Programs of Study, HISD will pay for an attempt at any certification examination listed on the HISD Approved IBC chart. In order to help remove barriers for students completing certain criteria in these Programs of Study, HISD will pay for an attempt at any certification examination listed on the HISD Approved IBC chart shown in this document. In order to qualify for the HISD funded IBC, the student must have completed necessary courses in the Program of Study to be amply prepared to take the exam. Any student who does not pass the initial attempt at the IBC may be provided an additional attempt paid by HISD upon approval by HHS administration and the teacher of the course after completion of additional preparation at the discretion of the teacher of the course.
