HHS Rowing Club is committed to creating a broadly diverse community by providing need-based scholarships.
Our scholarship program has two purposes:
To provide students with an experience that might not be affordable otherwise;
To provide students with a well-balanced community reflecting a diverse mix of socioeconomic backgrounds.
This club is fully supported by fees paid by parents and fundraising efforts. Therefore, we must carefully consider scholarships as they impact our financial position. Our scholarship program is funded through our budget and our scholarship fundraising (the generous gifts of parents, local businesses, alumni, and friends). We anticipate scholarships to be awarded on a sliding scale, with the emphasis on an ability to pay.
QUALIFICATION FOR ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP
To be considered for the scholarship, the applicant must:
● Must prove financial hardship
● Be eligible to participate in high school athletics at Hillsborough High School
● Must maintain a 3.0 GPA
● Must attend 75% of all practices
● Must attend 90% of all regattas
● Participate in team service and fundraising activities
Scholarships are income-based and HHSRC considers a number of factors that indicate financial need and meet other eligibility criteria. Our aim is to work with families in a low-income bracket who desire for their child(ren) to participate in the sport of rowing yet struggle to bridge the gap between affordability and program costs. We hope to get everyone who wishes to row, seated in a boat!
We encourage anyone who feels they meet the criteria to apply. All financial forms are considered confidential. The scholarship committee will determine awards and focus on the applicant’s ability to pay based on eligibility criteria. If you choose to apply for a scholarship, please select “scholarship” as your option when registering.
Scholarships do not include the following:
$35 registration fee
USRowing membership fee.
HHSRC unisuit (uniform) which costs around $150
Travel costs associated with regattas, both out of town and out of state
Food and lodging not covered by HHSRC at regattas
If the scholarship recipient is in a boat that qualifies for Nationals at the end of May, all costs associated with the Nationals regatta are paid by parents and not subsidized by HHSRC. Fundraisers will be scheduled and funds raised will help offset the costs to go to Nationals.
