What is a School Counselor?

A school counselor is a counselor and an educator who works to support the academic, personal/social, and career development of all students. This is done through a program that includes:

  • Classroom and school-wide events to educate students on academic, college and career, and social/emotional issues

  • Coordination and consultation with students, teachers, families, and others

  • Small group and individual counseling, on a short-term basis, to help students develop new skills to use at school and at home

  • Connecting families to community resources for additional counseling or other services needed
