Welcome to First Grade!
The following are the items that your child will need to bring for use in class:
2 box of crayons (16/24 count, not glitter or scented; no twistables and no markers!)
6 pencils (sharpened) and 1 pink eraser: please do not get the "cute" pencils and erasers-often the pencils are poorly made and break as they are sharpened and they cannot be sharpened in the electric sharpener, as the plastic wrappers jam and dull the blades. Also, the "fun" erasers sometimes do not erase, they just smear. Please do not send a "hand-held" pencil sharpener to school.
6 large glue sticks (which will need to be replaced now and then)
1 pair of safety scissors
1 highlighter
2 Black dry erase markers
1 container of baby wipes or disinfecting wipes (We use both, one for FACES, the other for PLACES!)
1 roll of paper towels (The type with the 1/2 sheets lasts longer.)
1 box of facial tissues
1 pair of headphones for Technology Class- Please send in an individual headset in a gallon Ziplock bag labeled with their name for your child to use for activities and curriculum on the Chromebooks, iPads and computers. Open the package at home and ensure your child can put the headset on. Headsets do not need to be expensive, but should be durable. Standard jack headsets will work best. Headsets should not be wireless or Bluetooth. Earbuds are not appropriate for grades PreK-2.
Other supplies will be ordered "in bulk" and will be included in your supply fee, such as copybooks, classroom folders, etc. Please find and purchase at least two 3-yard rolls of Clear Contact Adhesive Covering for your child's books. You may use another brand-some of those are less costly. Most of your child's books are consumable, meaning that we write in them and they have a "soft" cover. It is important that we cover them with Clear Contact so that the covers remain intact. Get it now--it is hard to find once school begins! Check Wal-Mart, Staples, Lowe's, Target, etc. Wal-Mart's School Supply Sale usually begins just after the July 4th Holiday.
Please be sure to reinforce number and letter recognition (upper and lower case) and initial consonant sounds. Also, review and practice with your child the following:
His/her full name, address and telephone number
How to print his/her full name (first and last)
How to zipper, button, tie shoes and buckle a belt
Have a wonderful summer!
