Vocal Ensemble Audition INformation

What to do:

  1. Register for Concert Choir on registration and then after auditions, If accepted into the Vocal Ensemble, Mr. Sherrodd will notify you and he will contact counseling to make all the necessary changes to your schedule.

  2. Sign Up for an Audition Time by clicking the link below.

You will be given a choice of Auditioning on Monday, April 11, 2022 or Tuesday, April 12, 2022 (After School)

  1. Prepare for your audition. No experience is necessary for being a part of this group, however prior experience of reading music and/or singing in groups will certainly help.

Prepare a song (of your choice) to sing that is no longer than 2 minutes 30 seconds. It can be a portion of a song if the song is longer. Choose something that will demonstrate your abilities, especially singing in tune. You may choose something and bring in a backing-track to sing to. Please do not prepare something where a singer is singing the same part. You must show you can carry the tune alone.

You will also be tested on some other musical things, like your voice range, reading ability (do not worry if you do not have experience), and pitch accuracy and rhythm accuracy.

  1. Contact Mr. Sherrodd in room E-3 if you have any questions or need further information.

  2. Attend your audition time and day that you are scheduled.

  3. Take a big breath and relax and wait to be notified if you made the Vocal Ensemble!

Class Description

Vocal Ensemble is a high level singing ensemble/class where individual students must audition to enroll in the class. Students will sing more complex music than Concert Choir and work at higher levels together as part of an organized music group. This class will continue to focus on the skills of matching pitch, blending with others, harmonizing, reading music, and developing other pertinent higher level skills related to being a singer and musician. Many different styles and genres of music will be presented as to give the student a wide range of music and musical knowledge. Music will be chosen by the teacher with the singers in mind to develop their ability and understanding of vocal and choral singing. Students will be expected to sing and participate in the large ensemble but will also be required to sing in small groups and alone during the course of the class. Students will need to work on building confidence with singing alone in live and in video format for assessment purposes. For some music, students will be taught choreography that must be applied while singing. Students will have to demonstrate willingness to participate in all aspects of the class for consideration of full credit on assignments, tasks, and performances. Opportunities for solos may be available for public performance, but not all students will be able to solo at these events based mostly on performance time and individual performance readiness. This will be done in an audition format. Classes are designed to educate the student in music and the model is primarily that of a rehearsal environment. Some after school rehearsals as well as concerts are a part of the mandatory class and overall grade.
