The Early College Academy (ECA) is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for your student to complete college-level courses while in high school. In collaboration with Victor Valley College (VVC), Sultana High School (SHS) has designed this program to help SHS students get a head start on their college education by taking college classes during the regular school day.
Students who are a part of ECA are a part of a cohort. It is designed as a 3 year program with students starting in 10th grade and continuing into their Junior and Senior year.
The program is free with absolutely no cost to students. Students can potentially earn up to 39 - 50 college credits during the three years. Most college credit earned through the program can be applied toward earning an AA/AS degree at VVC or be transferred to a university.
FREE - these classes are offered at no cost to our students. This is a great way to plan ahead to save money in the future. Tuition and books are paid for! Approximate savings $17,000 tuition + $25,000 Room and Board = $42,000 minimum for 1 1/2 years of college completed during high school.
COLLEGE CREDITS - Did you know that students who participate all three years in ECA can potentially earn 39 - 50 college credits? That is almost the equivalent to two full years of college (60 credits) meaning that by the time your graduate high school you could potentially be ready to enter your Junior year of college! (minimum for 1 1/2 years of college completed during high school).
TIME - Students will get ahead in their college studies as many of these courses are transferrable to CSU/UC schools. Students who complete 3 years of ECA and plan to attend VVC after graduating would potentially have their AS degree completed within a year of graduating high school. Students who plan to attend a 4 year university could potentially save two years worth of tuition costs!
GRADUATION: Helps students meet A-G Requirements. Not only do you earn college credit, but you earn high school credits as well. Some courses count for your general education courses for high school, meaning you complete your graduation requirements for high school while also completing college general education requirements.
