Why should you give your time and money?

Our experiences visiting Recife (our maternal home country Brazil) over this summer have rewired our thinking in a profoundly positive way. Recife, amongst the largest city in Brazil is a beach town with beautiful Atlantic beaches and a unique barrier of reefs which gives name to the town. As also beautiful girls, which is what drew Richard Feynman a physicist from our hometown on Long Island, nearly 65 years ago. The people were warm and welcoming as was the weather. I can confirm that water in the toilet does spin clockwise as Feynman noted in his book “Surely you must be joking, Mr Feynman” because of the Coriolis effect.

I would love for you to join us as I continue to work with my new found friends in Coque, Brazil. There are also several thousand other communities like Coque around the world with hundreds and thousands of children just like us. If for nothing else except that the experiences will change you for the better as it did for us. Our lives will be measured by the lives we touched and helped.

A global perspective on giving

Global giving is at a level of about 200 billion dollars. This includes USAID, nations, private philanthropies and billionaires. Giving is evolving because internet and smart phones connect pretty much the remotest part of the globe. This allows any individual to donate dorectly to anyone any where. Give directly is one such organization that has faciliated this. As the richest country in the world giving is part of the American value and our ethics. Its is also enlightened self interest because it leads to a better world which is less polluted and safer. Only about 10% of the worlds billionaires have signed the giving pledge. Which make it an imperative that each of us has to be interested and committed to giving.
