ESTABLISHING A READING LIFE
A good book can take you to far off lands. It can inform you to stimulate your imagination. Reading a book helps to both increase your vocabulary and notice the beauty of language. One of my goals this year is to get each child to appreciate reading and to approach reading with enthusiasm and joy. The easier it is to read, the more enjoyable reading becomes. The best way to become a strong reader is to READ, READ, READ!
In order to become better readers, children must develop reading stamina (reading for longer periods of time). I would like the children to read each day for a minimum of 25 minutes. The children are to read books on their appropriate level. It is important that students continue reading their books until they've completed them. This will develop consistency and help students continue to grow and develop as readers.
After reading, students are asked to fill in their reading logs. I would appreciate it if you could look over and discuss the log with your child daily. Over the weekend the students are expected to read at least one day. Thank you for your attention to helping to develop your child’s reading skills.
