FIRST® Tech Challenge
FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC) is a program for students in grades 7-12 who have FIRST® Lego League (FLL) experience and want to take their STEM experience to the next level. Teams of up to 15 are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. At the FTC level, participants are working with metal and tools instead of Lego. Coding is more complex and includes java based programming. But FTC isn't just building robots! Teams program their robots, raise funds through soliciting sponsors and writing grants, create and market their brand, and participate in community outreach events.
Robot competitions draw kids to our team. This year we will be competing in two qualifying events in the Twin Cities. During our qualifier, we need to get our robot to do a variety of tasks. For a better understanding of the challenge, see the 2024-2025 season challenge Into the Deep!.
For the 2024-2025 season, Proctor Hermantown Community Ed is supporting one FTC team, the Programming Pythons. This FTC team is currently made up of middle and high school students and meetings are held at Hermantown Middle School. Funding for the team comes from participation fees, fundraisers, and corporate sponsorships. Each year, FTC teams operate on a budget between $3k and $10k. If you'd like to help Hermantown FTC, review the documents below about making a donation or becoming a sponsor.
