Dr. Herman obtained his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Industrial and Labor Relations. In addition to private psychotherapy practice, Dr. Herman has over 30 years of experience working in higher education, mental health and healthcare. He served as the Director of the Counseling Center at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and then as the Director of UMBC Retriever Integrated Health, an integrated health and counseling center that provided counseling, medical care, acupuncture and massage. He also worked as the Assistant Director of Outreach and Consultation and a Staff Psychologist at the Counseling Center at Towson University and as a Staff Psychologist at Loyola University. Dr. Herman has taught in the Graduate Psychology Program at Towson University and in the Education Department at Loyola College.
Dr. Herman is the father of two adult daughters and is passionate about spending time in the outdoors.

My approach to counseling /psychotherapy is collaborative and my approach is strengths based and positive. We focus on what you want your life to look like and how you can get there. I will actively partner with you to help you address your concerns and work toward having the relationships and life that you want. I will work with you to set goals and to use our time together and the time in between sessions to refine and make progress on your goals.
