Below you will find a list of frequently asked questions about summer school. Click on your question to be taken to the answer, or scroll down to read them all.
Tests must be proctored. This means that they are taken under supervision of a teacher. During the times listed on each department page, a green chat bubble will appear on your Chromebook screen in the lower corner. Use the chat bubble to let the teacher on duty know that you are ready to test. There is no link to join! We can see everything we need to see using GoGuardian which is already loaded on your device.
If you want to continue working on your course before the next session, you can contact your teacher to receive a temporary zero on the test. This will allow you to continue working past the test, but you must take the test at the next available opportunity. Keep in mind, our work hours are during the weekday, so we will be unable to bypass you at night.
We can also sometimes accommodate proctoring you outside of the normally scheduled proctoring sessions, but you need to set that up with us in advance.
Starting Thursday night, we will place your course on free roam for the weekend. This will allow you to skip past locked tests yourself by clicking Next Activity when you reach the lock screen. Free roam will be deactivated Monday and you will need to get tests proctored to continue working.
You will need to sync your personal device with your school account. Detailed instructions can be found at this link. You will be able to turn sync on and off at will- teachers will be able to see you on GoGuardian when you have sync turned on. Students from outside of Henry County Schools district will need to make separate arrangements with their teacher for proctoring as they will not have a Henry County Schools Google account at all.
Overall Grade is just the grade on what you have turned in so far. It does not take due dates into account.
Actual Grade looks at all the work that has been due so far and assigns zeroes for work that is late. This is the most accurate reflection of your grade. If you are behind pace, you need to work extra time each day to catch up- then you will see the Actual Grade begin to climb. Once you are on pace, the Overall Grade and Actual Grade will match.
Using the Course Map. When you first get to your courses, instead of clicking Next Activity, click the blue icon beside the course's title. This will take you to the Course Map which gives a list of all the work in the class along with when it is due. See the screenshots below.
All courses will close on Thursday, July 10 at 4pm. Grades will be captured and posted based on where you are at that time. No extensions can be offered as this is a hard deadline. You must be 100% complete and passing before 4pm on this day.
The first thing to do is check to make sure you are not behind pace. If you are behind pace, this can drop your grade drastically. Work on catching up as priority number one to see where your grade is once you are caught up.
If you are caught up and still failing, you need to start looking at some habits. Are you paying attention during instructional videos and taking notes? You should be using notes to help with the practice assignments as well. Are you passing your quizzes? Failing quizzes is a good indicator that you will likely not do well on your test, either. If you are failing quizzes, take action before you take the test. You can request retakes on quizzes by submitting handwritten notes over the lesson to your teacher.
If you are just not getting a concept, you can also request a tutoring appointment with your teacher.
