Syllabus
Welcome to the LGHS theatre department! This year we will be exploring everything from history of theatre to elements of acting, stagecraft and how theatre connects to our society culturally. In these classes you will experience many different aspects of theatre. My goal is to improve your performance level, your knowledge of theatre, and, most importantly, your self-confidence. You will be exposed to aspects of technical theatre, musical theatre and straight plays. You will enhance academic skills by comparing and contrasting movies, television and theatre, as well as presenting monologues and practicing script writing. You will learn how to audition, direct, be good audience members and many more valuable life skills!
Course Descriptions
Fundamentals of Theatre I- This course serves as an introduction to the theatre arts. Students investigate theatre as a whole by exploring the techniques and origins of a wide variety of theatre arts in various cultures and periods.
Acting I- Introduces the acting process and the role of the actor in various styles/methods with a focus on scene study. Stresses developing imagination, observation, concentration powers, and self-discipline. Includes developing physical and vocal control while transmitting emotions, convictions, and ideas; enhances self-confidence and self-awareness. Theatre is used as a means to encourage cooperative learning, team work, organization, and leadership skills. The class allows all students the opportunity to perform on a regular basis.
Advanced Drama I - Studies the artistic, technical, management, and performance elements of a live theatre production. As a part of the planning, rehearsal, and performance, students assume positions of responsibility and demonstrate basic knowledge and skills in acting, directing, artistic criticism, script analysis, staging, character creation, vocal techniques, and physical movement. Students recognize the responsibilities of the producer, director, actors, designers, technicians, and managers through collaboration in the creation of a theatre performance.
Advanced Drama II- Enhances Level-one skills, focusing on student direction and design.
Acting II - Enhances level-one skills with emphasis on classical and historical scene study
Expectations:
Students will be expected to turn in daily work and homework/projects on time.
Late work will be taken up to 3 days past due date with points taken for tardiness.
It is the students' responsibility to request make up work/missed work, and turn in promptly.
Grading policy: 40% of your grade will be derived from practice work, 40% of your grade will be derived from formative assessments (i.e., quizzes, homework, participation, class activities), 20% of your grade will be derived from summative assessments (i.e., projects, end-of-unit assessments, mid term exams, final exams, performances)
Students are expected to be in class before the tardy bell. The door will be locked at that time and students will need to obtain a late pass.
Students should dress appropriately and comfortably as some activities will involve physical movement onstage.
Students will be expected to follow LGHS and Henry County behavior guidelines.
Parents will be contacted for attendance or behavior concerns.
Materials needed for class each day: Fully charged Laptops, pencils,paper
Students will be expected to keep cell phones silenced and put away during instructional time. (see below)
If students participate in LGHS shows, please be prepared to submit cast fees.
If students participate in LGHS shows, please be prepared to secure rides to and from all scheduled rehearsals and performances.

LEVEL 1 VIOLATIONS
1.6 Electronic Resources: Violating the policies for using electronic resources. Referto page 60.
1.7 Misuse of Electronic Communication Devices: Unauthorized possession, displaying or using a cell phone, pager, or other electronic communication device during the school day without the consent of the principal or his/her designee.
**Unit plans will be posted at the start of each section in google classroom and on google site. Assignments will be posted in google classroom.
