We strongly advise against purchasing cheap instruments from Amazon. These instruments are often poorly made and hinder a student's ability to learn and progress.
Investing in high-quality supplies from the outset will ensure a more enjoyable and successful band experience for your child. While the initial cost may seem high, these instruments are more durable and will last longer, saving you money in the long run.
Important Band Supplies Information for McDonough Middle School Parents
This message outlines the essential supplies needed for your child's success in band class this year. We recommend purchasing these items from Amazon or your local music store.
Woodwind Instruments (Clarinet & Saxophone):
Mouthpiece: A mouthpiece is essential for playing the instrument. We recommend considering the "Better" option listed for a higher-quality product that will benefit your child's learning.
Ligature: A ligature holds the reed onto the mouthpiece.
Reeds: These are thin strips of wood that vibrate to create sound. A supply of reeds is necessary, as they need to be replaced regularly.
Saxophone Neck Strap (required): This is especially helpful for students using a school-provided saxophone for added comfort and support.
Brass Instruments (Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba):
Mouthpiece (if using a school instrument): Students using a school-provided instrument will need to purchase their own mouthpiece.
Valve/Slide Oil & Slide Grease: These lubricants are essential for maintaining smooth instrument operation.
Percussion:
Bell Kit Rental: All percussion students are required to rent the bell kit from TLS Music Store.
