The following is a list of daily norms and procedures for all Technology Education classes.
Students are to be in the classroom and in their assigned seats or areas when the bell rings.
Laptops are to be opened and the class Schoology course accessed for today’s instructions or warm-up.
No talking after the bell rings or during roll call. You may not leave the class upon entry for the first 15 minutes.
SAFETY FIRST. Follow all safety rules. Always wear your safety goggles for project work. Hoodies and hats are not to be worn in class. Be alert at all times and attentive to instructions.
Remain focused at all times: a break or moment of silence is not permission to talk.
Report all accidents including minor cuts, scratches, and splinters to the teacher promptly.
Horseplay and running are never permitted.
Listen and follow all instructions.
When in doubt, ASK. Raise your hand for questions and assistance.
Restroom breaks are allowed after the first 15-minute rule, before the lesson instruction, and during the main hands-on activity. Check Schoology for the times allotted for the restroom.
No eating food, candy, gum, nor drinking beverages in the class and lab.
If it is not assigned to your area, do not touch, or move it without permission.
Sit properly and upright in the chair; standing or leaning in or on the chair is not permitted.
Always pass tools and materials in a safe and responsible manner. Do not throw objects (including paper, pencils, or any other matter) in the class or at another student.
Students must sanitize and/or clean their hands before starting any hands-on activities that involve using or sharing items from classmates or submitting work to the teacher.
10 minutes before each class ends, wait for the signal from the instructor, substitute, class leader, or timekeeper.
Clean up your work area, tools, and project; follow the maintenance schedules.
Return to your assigned seat, pack up, and remain seated.
When the bell rings, and when signed by the instructor or substitute, stand up.
Put your chair: underneath/on top of the table.
Wait by your chair to be dismissed by the instruction only. Do not line up by the door.
Stay on the assigned task.
Discussions should relate to the lesson activity.
Use tabletop 12" x 15" covers or large tech desks while cutting or gluing all projects.
Get verbal permission to move or leave assigned areas.
Record activities for the day as instructed in your engineering design journal.
Remember - Group Grades Are Shared Grades.
Remember - You must stop working in time to clean up your area to be on time for the next class. Excused passes will not be given.
Cell phones may not be used during instructional time. There are times when it is at the teacher’s discretion. Permission must be given before the cell phone is brought out for use. Cell phone use or other electronic devices to record anything or anyone without authorization on school property or at school events is prohibited.
If your laptop is being repaired and you have your cell phone, permission may be granted at the beginning of class. You are still responsible for any work while the laptop is being repaired. It is better to participate than play catch-up.
Written Assignments:
Be sure that your full name, block, and date are written on the correct pages. Assignments will not be graded if missing.
All class paperwork should be submitted in chronological order on the due date. No paper, no name, no grade. Please write neatly. Handwriting will not be deciphered.
Electronic Assignments/Independent Practice (Homework):
Assignments that are submitted blank will receive a zero. There are no accidents in submitting an electric assignment blank.
Complete all virtual assignments and videos until the very end (including Nearpod, Edpuzzle, etc.). Assignments generate a grade at the end of the assignment only.
Independent Practice (homework) assignments must be completed by the deadline. These assignments are used to help instruction for the next class.
Be sure that your full name, block, and date are on electronic assignments when there is a place to put them. Include your classroom nickname for games for class participation. You may use alternative lettering that is recognizable.
Missing Assignments & Projects:
Students are required to check Power School for any outstanding assignments, and should also check for any grade notes indicating requirements and extended deadlines. Students may consult with the teacher for additional information after reviewing Power School and Schoology. When absent, students must refer to Schoology for assignments and ensure they are completed.
Projects and unit work must be finished within the designated timeframe for the respective unit. Students must make every effort to communicate with the teacher upon their return and are obligated to complete any makeup assignments by the specified deadline, whether through after-school sessions or by fulfilling alternative tasks as assigned. Failure to comply with these provisions by the deadline will result in a grade reflective of the effort put forth on the assignment.
Grades:
Grades are updated and ready every Friday. Parents will receive an email every Friday morning that grades have been updated. Some assignments will be graded the same day while others will be updated and ready on Fridays. Parents will receive a detailed email on how grades are marked. Students will be taught in class how to check assignments. When necessary, assignments will have comments in which students and parents will know the status of an assignment.
Assignment Writing Style:
For assignment questions, always start by restating the question in sentence form where permissible.
Social media or text message-type responses are not acceptable answers. Complete sentences and words are required for all questions and statements that require thought and input.
