Welcome to our 4th grade class!  I am so excited to begin our year together.  I hope that you have had a wonderful summer break and are ready to get back into school.  I am really looking forward to meeting you at our Open House on August 15th from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. 

The first day of school for students is Monday, August 19th.  

Below are some of the applications that we will use this year.  We will be using many of the applications this year during independent practice and small group time.  There are a lot of great applications available on Clever, and I encourage you all to investigate the following:

• Reading

  • iReady - great new application to work on decoding and comprehension

  • Epic! - leveled books to read

  • Follett Destiny Discover - leveled books to read and you can “check-out” the book and put it in a virtual bookbag

  • Tumble Books K - 6 - high interest animated books that you can read or it can read to you

  • Tumble Math - animated books about math

  • Scholastic at Home - activities by grade level 

  • Storyline Online - listen to a book read to you by a famous actor

  • Newsela - leveled newspaper articles on many areas of interest

  • The World Almanac for Kids - high interest information on many subjects

• Math

  • iReady- targeted practice for your child

  • Khan Academy - log in with hcps email and practice lots of different topics

  • CK-12 Foundation - choose your grade level and review/practice concepts

• Science/Social Studies

  • Five Ponds - digital version of social studies textbook

  • Go to Epic or Follett Destiny Discover and check out nonfiction books about topics of interest

  • Study Island - lessons and practice on specific topic areas

  • BrainPop - watch short movies on topics of interest

  • Encyclopedia of Virginia - learn more about topics of interest

• Other

  • Typing.com - strengthen those typing skills to get yourself ready for next year

  • Google Slides - create a slideshow of the books that you read this summer or activities that you do

  • Quaver Music - keep learning about music through this interactive site

  • Brush Ninja - simple animation tool that the kids would really enjoy

  • Digital Breakouts - remember that there are many breakouts available to you on Clever that I added during the school year.  Great for problem solving,
