Unit Chats

Routine: Unit chats are a routine that places emphasis on different units within an image in order to determine a total. Students can answer "how many" with respect to the different options of units presented by the picture. The teacher posts a Unit Chat image with different kins of objects to count in it. The objects should be arranged in arrays or another structure that will assist students in viewing the units and counting a total. After students have had a minute to look at the image, the teacher should ask students what they see and how they determined the total.
