Coding can be a bit intimidating to a new user. Try these sites to help you get started and build confidence in your ability to code. Start off with code.org to have your students participate in the Hour of Code. The Hour of Code is great because it is a self-contained lesson that will be finished in an hour or less. You don’t have to worry about students not finishing their work or having to extend the lesson into another subject. Code.org has everything you need to participate in the Hour of Code.
Just as the name states, it’s an hour of coding for your students. Students can choose from different lessons. Each lesson lasts no more than an hour. Students watch a short video and then follow an interactive tutorial. At the end of the tutorial students will have a playable game that they created. Try one of these:
Google CS First is another free option for learning to code. With CS First, students watch tutorial videos in one tab and work in Scratch in another tab. By working through the tutorials, students learn to code and create their own finished product that saves in their Scratch account.
