Training for adult learners on how to facilitate professional learning communities.
Challenge
The administrative team wanted to move from teachers having content level department meetings to professional learning communities (PLC).
The admin team and I needed more information on what proper PLC teams should look like.
The teachers (adult learners) needed instruction on how to run PLC meetings and their usefulness.
Once the training was created and complete, we realized that due to staff changes every year there needed to be a self paced module that new PLC leaders could take.
Solution
The administrative team and I read and attended professional learning on PLCs through Andrew Venables text and trainings.
I created an in person learning series for adult learners on how to facilitate PLC meetings.
I later created this self-paced module on how to facilitate PLC meetings that could be completed by new facilitators. I wanted to use open response elements in storyline 360 so that the adult learner could apply the strategies they learned.
Result
The administrative team became well versed in PLCs.
Teachers started using their meeting time to vet instruction, analyze data, and share information through their PLC meetings. Prior to this they used their department meeting time to plan out instruction schedules and assessments.
Students received improved lessons in their content classrooms because teachers were vetting and reflecting on their practice.
