Nice to meet you!
Nice to meet you!
Hi, Im Ashley!
I am a former high school educator turned Instructional Designer. For ten years I've worked in teaching, adult learning, learning and design, curriculum development, project management, and instructional coaching. I am passionate about the work that I create and enjoy working with teams in developing and assessing our goals for 21st century learning.
In my current role I design and create computer based modules and instructor lead courses for the Customer Contact Operations Department at Dominion Energy. In April of 2023 Dominion Energy launched a new SAP based software that call center agents would use in their role when processing customer requests. In the fall of 2022 my team was tasked with re-designing the 12 week customer service agent new hire program to train agents in business and technical acumen with integration of the new SAP system. From there I assisted in analyzing the current situation by interviewing our company subject matter experts so that our team could plan where we wanted to go, and how we would get there with targeted actions steps. From our analysis we wanted to create a more hands on learning program where agents would carry out tasks with real scenarios. We also changed the program from being almost entirely instructor lead, to a hybrid format of computer based modules and instructor lead. After creating the program that consisted of 90 courses our adult learners have received consistent learning opportunities to build their practice prior to being released to take calls on the floor.
Creating resources and collaborating with colleagues through an equitable lens is incredibly important to me. I have worked with students in a high needs population and seen several issues with inequity in their instruction. I have personally worked hard to take training through our county office of Equity and Diversity, and in my own time read books by Zaretta Hammond on culturally responsive teaching. From this I have applied what I learned to create equitable learning opportunities for our stakeholders. Equity is an ongoing conversation that should be at the forefront of any work environment or learning experience.
In my previous role I served as an instructional coach; I meet regularly with our adult learners to implement steps to improve their instruction. I treated our relationship as a partnership where I guided and helped them achieve their goals through questioning techniques and analyzing data. This in turn helped their ability to reflect and improve their own practice. This is in alignment with Malcolm Knowles principles of Adult Learning Theory. When adults feel invested in choosing their goals or path of learning they are far more invested.
In my spare time, you’ll usually find me rock climbing, hiking, or traveling!
