Overview
During this course adults learn how to create cross curricular lessons to engage students in the classroom. It is split into two sessions, the first they learn to use a tool that helps design cross curricular lessons and in the second part they create a lesson using the tool.
Challenge
Each building was tasked with having an innovation initiative. Our administration chose the goal of implementing cross curricular lessons with our student body.
Solution
After speaking with our leadership team, we determined these lessons needed to have consistent elements across different contents/instructors. To accomplish this goal our adult learners needed training on what a cross curricular lesson looks like and how to create one.
The instructional coach and I decided to create a protocol tool that adult learners could use to create and vet cross curricular lessons.
This course requires two learning sessions. During the first session learners review the tool and use it to vet a cross curricular lesson to make edits. The second session they work in small groups to use the tool to create their own cross curricular lesson.
Results
Students receive high quality cross curricular lessons.
Student can learn how content relates to their life in a real world context. This improves engagement in the classroom.
