Overview
In this course adult learners experienced a spooky Halloween themed digital breakout room. After the experiential activity, they learned to create their own digital breakout rooms using Google Forms.
Challenge
To engage student learners in the classroom using gamified elements.
Solution
The librarians and I received materials and a subscription to Breakout EDU. We wanted to show the adult learners how they can create digital breakout rooms to add gaming elements to engage students in the classroom.
Due to it being the Halloween holiday, we created a themed Edgar Allan Poe digital breakout room activity. Adult learners got to experience participating in a breakout room. They then learned how to create one and brainstormed ideas on how they could use this in the classroom with students.
We also thought it was important to show our learners how using google forms for breakout room can collect data.
Results
Student engagement increased.
Students got to work on their communication and collaboration skills through breakout room games.
Adult learners learned how to create breakout rooms and use google forms to collect data to inform their instruction with students.
