1st Grade is an important year of growth and learning independence. Talking to your child each day about school, reading, and completing homework together are some of the best ways to help your child to be successful. Nightly homework includes the following:
- Reading- Spend time reading with your child each night for 20 minutes. At the beginning of the year, we recommend that you support your child in reading to you. Later in the year, as they begin to develop their reading skills they can read more independently to you. It is still important for your child listen to you read more difficult texts aloud to them to help them hear good fluency and expressive voice.
- Completing assigned homework- A newsletter will be emailed at the start of each week and will provide your child with a brief review of skills that are being introduced in the classroom. Please return completed homework in your child's folder in their backpack.
