Week 4

The Imagine Neighborhood|4/5/2020

It’s pixie season in the Neighborhood. Everybody has to stay inside – even Macho Supreme. Macho was really looking forward to the Glamour Flex contest, and now he can’t go! Scotty and Macho discuss feeling frustrated, why we sometimes need to stay in to help everybody out, and tons of stuff you can do while you’re stuck inside.

In this week's episode, Scotty and Macho discuss how it feels to be frustrated, and why it’s disappointing when you can’t do the things you were looking forward to. Feeling disappointed can feel like a real loss, so it's important to acknowledge those feelings before jumping in with alternative things to do.

If you’re stuck at home, have you tried making new friends… from scratch? You and your child can try building your own Cardboard Scotty, or other friends, family, or imaginary characters. You can draw signs or pictures to put up around your house or your neighborhood (which you can share with us on the Imagine Neighborhood website!) And you can discuss how it feels to be frustrated or disappointed when you don’t get to do something you were looking forward to.

This week's music is Cornerstone by Benjamin Clementine.

H.A.L.T.

When we are struggling we can try the HALT technique. This technique can be used for children and parents. All of our basic needs should be met. If our needs are not being met, then we may feel down, out of sorts or may become dysregulated.

Hunger

Anger

Loneliness

Tiredness

When we are hungry, angery, lonely or tired we are unable to be our best selves. Do a self check & check on family to see if they need a HALT check. Read more about this idea here:

Social Emotional Learning (SEL)-

Hen Hud Students, have you ever felt disappointed? Did you find yourself in a BAD mood? Have you ever felt frustrated and disappointed and couldn't help yourself feel better? Were you able to change your mood? Feeling mad, disappointed and frustrated are all feelings that all people feel from time to time. Some kids can feel stuck in these feelings. When you are ready to shift your feelings, you can focus on what you can control. When we focus on what we can control in our lives, we can shift how we are feeling. It is not always easy, but just like any skill, we can practice and get better! Next time you feel disappointed, can you try and shift your focus to what you can control?

Check out these videos from Class Dojo. One friend finds himself in a bad mood. Will he be able to cope?
