Extended Practicum II in Health Science

Recommended for students in Grade 12.

Students may either enter into the CNA / Phlebotomy Certification Program or the EMT Certification Program. All certifications require both classroom and unpaid clinical experiences.

Prerequisites: Health Science Theory, Biology, Practicum I in Health Science

  • Gives students practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills.
  • Practicum experiences can occur in a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experience.
  • Students are certified in Healthcare BLS CPR.
  • Students are encouraged to participate in extended learning experiences such as career and technical student organizations (HOSA) and other leadership or extracurricular organizations.

Practicum II - Phlebotomy

Students learn the importance of proper don/doff PPE while participating in an experimental HIV transmission lab activity. This was done in conjunction of infection control procedures related to working as a Phlebotomist.

Practicum II - EMT

Students must be seniors and have completed the required prerequisites to be enrolled in the EMT Class. Students learn to assess the medical needs of the sick and the injured and provide medical care. A few skills that EMT student's are trained to perform are: CPR and use of an AED, bandage wounds, provide oxygen and/or airway adjuncts, stabilize head and neck injuries, stabilize broken bones and administer certain medications.
