Parents and students please take the time to read over the general expectations of the 7th Grade Teaching Team and the DVMS school rules for the 2021 - 2022 school year during this new COVID - 19 teaching environment.

Teachers will be taking daily attendance for classes. Students who are not "present" for class will be marked as "absent" and it will be recorded with the attendance office. Teachers will also be assigning class work, homework assignments, projects, and quizzes/tests as the teacher sees fit on a daily/weekly basis for each class. Students are expected to complete all work assigned by their teachers and submit their work to their teachers to be graded. Teachers will be maintaining and updating their individual grade-books.

Students are encouraged to use the Hemet Unified School District issued Chromebook for all school activities and are discouraged from using personal devices. Students are also expected to notify an adult if they are aware of students who may be using computers and other technologies in inappropriate ways. Students who do not use the computer, or other technologies, for educational purposes will be reported to Admin. School issued Chromebooks become the student’s responsibility once they have been checked out and fees are charged for lost/damaged Chromebooks.

Textbooks are provided for students. Books become the student’s responsibility and fees are charged for lost/damaged textbooks and/or library books. Transcripts, grades, and other activities are withheld until all school textbooks and materials are returned or reimbursed.

Please call and/or text within school hours. If you are leaving a voicemail, or sending a text message to a teacher, please state your first and last name and your students first and last name along with what class period your student is in. If you are leaving a voicemail please state a phone number we can call you back on. Phone calls and text messages should be made by adults and not by students. Teachers will respond back to phone calls, text messages, and voicemails within 24 hours.

Please email within school hours and have your student communicate with their teachers using their student email address only and not a personal email address. Please remind your student to add their first and last name along with what class period they are in when they send an email to a teacher. Please make sure your student’s emails are professional and follow school policy. Teachers will respond to emails within 24 hours.

1. Be Prepared for Class

• Have work ready to turn in and a well-supplied AVID Binder

• If you need materials, ask the teacher before instruction begins

• Know the routines and procedures of each class

2. Follow Instruction/Directions

• In class, SLANT (Sit Up, Listen, Ask/Answer, Nod, Track)

• Think about what you need to complete the task/assignment

• If you are uncertain about what to do, ask 3 BEFORE Me (teacher)

• Start on the task/assignment right away without delay

3. Staying On Task

• Be focused on what it is you need to accomplish in the given time

• Continue working until you finish or the teacher asks you to stop

• If you finish early, continue reading your A.R. Book

4. Accepting Criticism or Consequences

• Receiving feedback is away for us to understand how we can do better

• Listen with an open mind - this will help you understand the feedback

• Remain calm and respectful, remember adults are teaching you better ways to accomplish a successful/positive outcome

5. Listening To Others

• Keep your eyes focused on the speaker

• Think about what they are saying to you (keep your mind open) and respond appropriately

• Remain calm and polite to achieve a successful/positive outcome

6. Accepting Decisions of Authority

• Just know that you will not always get what you want

• Remain calm and respond in a neutral tone; showing respect

7. Responding to Inappropriate Touch or Talk

• If someone is bothering or harassing you, ask them to stop. Let them know that you do not like the way they are talking or touching you. If they continue, please alert an adult on campus.

8. Accepting No for Answer

• This goes along with Accepting Decisions of Authority - no means no, so please do not whine or beg. Adults always have a reason why they deny your request, but they do not always have to share that reason with you.

9. Resisting Negative Peer Pressure

• Stay true yourself; know right from wrong and don’t let others lead you down a path that will get you into trouble. Stand up for what you know is the right thing to do.

10. Disagreeing Appropriately

• We are all unique and have our opinions; listen to others and if you disagree with their point of view then explain your position in a calm voice. If an agreement cannot be made, then agree to disagree and walk away
