Parents and students please read the following class descriptions below to get a preview of what your student will be learning this year in their different core classes; and see links to digital resources the students will be using in their different classes.

Welcome new 7th graders and parents to 7th Grade Word History! This year we will be discussing many different topics. We begin in Ancient Rome and the Muslim World, and then move to Africa, China, and Japan to end the first semester. Second semester, we will be discussing Medieval Europe, Renaissance, Reformation, the Scientific Revolution, the Age of Exploration and then end the year with Mesoamerica and South American Civilizations like the Maya, Aztec, and Inca. As we go through our content standards, we will be discussing nearly every major religion in the World and studying many different technological advancements that have brought about our modern World today. We will be working with our new World History textbook, DBQ’s, and other resources to bring these different civilizations and time periods we will be studying to life and look at their impact on the World!

This year in 7th grade English, we will be exploring many types of literature & writing styles! For the first triad, we will be reading various fictional narratives & students will get to write their own short stories. In the second triad, we will journey to outer space & make an argument as to whether exploration is worth the risk. Optical illusions and mysteries are on the menu for our third triad as we look at perception and reality. Fourth triad brings us to a historical account of the Triangle Factory Fire and the fifth triad has us investigating how poetry comes alive with figurative language. We will end the school year with a deep dive into how the media is able to persuade us. Throughout the first semester, students will read our class novel, The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin (a mystery novel that is a real page-turner!). This year in 7th grade Math we will be applying our math skills to real life situations such as money management, construction, cooking, and much more! We will be exploring the number system, expressions, equations, geometry, ratios, proportional relationships, statistics, and probability. Our goal this year is to improve our abilities to make sense of problems and persevere in solving them, reason abstractly and quantitatively, construct viable arguments, critique the reasoning of others, model with mathematics, use appropriate tools strategically, and attend to precision.
