This class is designed for ALL students. Prior experience in an Advanced Placement course is not required. If you have an interest in learning more about the environment and what actions we can take to positively impact it then this is the class for you.
PREREQUISTES: “B” or better in Biology 1-2C or higher and concurrent enrollment or completion of Chemistry 1-2C, or Physics 1-2C.
AP Environmental Science is designed to support ALL students, including those who have not taken an AP course before. Students should expect to be challenged and prepared to work through complex concepts. In-class work focused on the application and sense-making of these concepts which supports students to better reach understanding.
Students should expect around 20-30 minutes of daily work (sometimes more/less). The majority of homework in the course involves note taking of concepts that will be explored in the next class session. For example, watch a 10-minute AP Environmental topic video and fill out an accompanying structured/guided notes.
This course follows a flipped instruction model. Students take notes on the concepts covered in the upcoming class (an easier, lower cognitive skill). This provides more time to spend in-class on labs and activities that apply complex course concepts.
