Your learning is designed into paths to explore.
You may only be able to attend a half day, you might only be available on the 5th (day 1). You might be looking to network and plan with other teachers and facilitators to guide you to your next steps in your journey on the 6th (day 2) AM only.
Wherever you are in your journey we have something for you.
National Geographic Regional Director, Chris Hines will present Phase 1 of the National Geographic Educator Certification Workshop.
The complete certification is comprised of three phases, the final two phases are completed online through the National Geographic Educator website.
Phase 2 will have you using resources, mapping, and themes to design lessons for your students.
Phase 3 will tell your story through a capstone video, and reflection of the learning process.
The AM session will start after the breakfast "Meet and Greet" with Chris Hines, and other National Geographic Educator Certification Facilitators.
If you choose to go to the AM session we would suggest after lunch attend Breakout Session "Explore Curriculum Planning Phase 2" (45 minutes) this will help you chose the correct path for project. If you are unable to attend this session on day 1 this breakout session will also be available on June 6 (day 2).

Geo-Inquiry Process (3 hours)
Today’s students need to understand how the complex and dynamic human and natural systems interact in order to make smart decisions.
The Geo-Inquiry Process relies on using a geographic perspective, offering a unique lens to analyze space, place, and the interconnections between both the human and natural world.
Using both a geographic perspective and the Geo-Inquiry Process students begin to connect complex components, see patterns, and make connections that change their communities.
Explore Curriculum Planning Phase 2 (45 minutes)
Walk through the planning of Phase 2 of your certification with a National Geographic Certification Facilitator. Investigate resources that tie into your existing curriculum a design your lesson plans. Explore maps, printable, large scale, giant maps, and interactive mapping.
Grants(45 minutes)
Education-focused grants aim to help educators teach people about the world and how it works, empowering them to make it a better place. All proposed projects must be novel, innovative, and exploratory, aligning with our mission and one of our focus areas: Human Journey, Wildlife, or Changing Planet.
Projects may introduce innovative instructional strategies for students of any age and in any location. Other projects may take proven ideas and scale or replicate them for larger audiences or different geographical areas. Projects may also measure what is working in education and add to the body of knowledge about how people learn.
Micro Credentials (45 minutes)
Looking for a great way to get started, but not quite ready for a full certification journey. Microcredentials are an easy way of doing smaller classroom explorations that engage students in real world questioning, problem solving and so much more.
Explorer Classroom (45 minutes)
Explorer Classroom connects classrooms around the world with National Geographic Explorers, bringing science, exploration, and conservation to life through live video events. Students have the opportunity to ask the explorer their questions directly. Each month Explorer Classroom features a new theme and provides supporting resources for educators. Throughout the school year, classes can also join explorers live on expedition through our In the Field series.
