1. What is Parent Academy?

Parent Academy is a compilation of resources and course offerings to help parents become full partners in their children’s education.


2. What is the focus of the learning opportunities?

Parent Academy will concentrate in four areas:

  • Parenting Awareness: Information and experiences that empower parents to raise self-confident, disciplined, motivated and educated children from birth through young adulthood.

  • Helping Your Child Learn in the 21st Century: Empowering parents to actively support the educational opportunities and academic challenges that children face in the 21st Century.

  • Health and Wellness: Information and activities that support healthy lifestyles for families, both physically and emotionally.

  • Personal Growth and Development: Opportunities for parents to increase their own personal and professional growth, enabling them to effectively advocate for themselves and their children.


3. Who can attend Parent Academy?

Parent Academy offerings are for everyone who wants to learn more about education, child development, wellness, personal development and more. All parents, grandparents, and legal guardians of students are eligible to participate in the program.


4. Why was Parent Academy created?

Studies show that the most successful students are those whose parents are involved. Parent Academy was created to help families learn what they can do to support their children’s academic success and well-being.

Where are the courses held?

Courses are held at area schools, libraries, the Pat May Center and other locations throughout the community that are convenient to parents. If you would like us to bring Parent Academy offerings to your site, please contact us at 817-399-2180.


How do I register?

Registration forms are available on the Hurst Euless Bedford ISD Web site (www.hebisd.edu) under Parents and Students in the Family Engagement tab. Or, you may contact us by phone at 817-399-2180.


Is transportation offered?

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide transportation at this time.


How much do the courses cost?

All Parent Academy courses are free. Some volunteer hours may have donations or cost associated like PTA fees.


How many classes can I take?

There are no limits on the number of classes one can take.


Are classes offered in multiple languages?

Several courses are offered in other languages. Our Family Engagement web page has courses offered in each language.


Could I offer a course?

Yes. Please contact the Family Engagement, Community Outreach & Teacher Support Department at 817-399-2180 if you are interested in offering a course or if you have a course suggestion. All courses are subject to review by the Parent Academy Curriculum Review Committee.


Is childcare available?

Yes! Childcare is provided for some district Parent Academy courses. Some school events will require you to make other childcare arrangements. When looking for ways to get involved information on the option for childcare will be included in the details.


Do courses have credits?

A system of credits are provided for Parent University courses. Parents/Guardians choose from a variety of activities to earn these credits. Credits will be totaled at the end of the year to acknowledge participation and achievement. An awards ceremony with cap and gown will recognize parents for being powerful partners to their child(ren) and the school. See the Graduation Requirements page for more information.
