[ Ideas from our Parents ]

One of our best resources is other parents that have been there and done that! Here are some great ideas from the real pro's!

"Read, read, read while they are in elementary school. Read to them, let them read to you, listen to audio books, snuggle up in bed and read, eat snacks and read. Let them get bored so they will read some more for fun." -Mindy B.

"Put school away when the school day is over. The idea is to close a door until the next school day, but I never had that luxury. Having cabinets or drawers to put it away in always helped" - Jen W.

" If you can do field trips they make for great memories and a fun way to learn. " - Colleen, 5th year homeschooler

A homeschooling mom of 15 years loves the Story of the World for History because it puts events and people in a global perspective.

"Language arts is not one of my strong areas, so I had to look for outside assistance to make sure that they received the curriculum they needed. I've also realized that each of my children learn language arts differently. It takes a lot of trial and error to find the perfect fit for each child, but once you do, it's amazing how quickly they flourish. So please, if you are in the midst of having issues with a curriculum not working, rest assured that eventually you WILL find something that works. My oldest daughter is making leaps and bounds in progression in her Edmentum English classes. This was a life saver for her and we are in our second year of English with them. My oldest son was my most difficult and I actually found a wonderful tutor that has taken on doing a complete curriculum for him. For two youngest children, we have continued with good ol' reliable Reading Eggs. Like all of their products, it's such a great program, the kids love the app, the worksheets are great, and you can't beat the additional support. I also started them both in Outschool "Learning Pod" classes, their instructor offers a little bit of everything each week, including language arts." - Parent of 4 homeschoolers.

Stephanie, mom to 3 - "Teaching Textbooks. It is all online. I know it is a trusted program that allows the kids to work independently; which they love. It allows me to have a moment to do another task (laundry, work with another child, answer emails, etc.)"
